About me
Jean Baptiste, Kihew Mahihkan Atayohkan Iskwew, is a trans, nonbinary Two-Spirit member of the Wet’suwet’en nation in the Laksilyu clan. They have been beading since 2018 alongside mentors and Beads & Bannock art collective co-founders Lynette LaFontaine (Metis) and Shalane Pauls (Tahltan and Tsimshian). Jean works to create beadwork that is grounded out of their experiences consciously diving into their relationship with their body, community, history and identity.
